How to cancel Google Workspace

  1. 1Export what you need first (Admin console → Data → Data export, or Google Takeout per user), because Gmail and Drive data are deleted after cancellation.
  2. 2Sign in at admin.google.com as a super admin and open Billing → Subscriptions.
  3. 3Click the Google Workspace subscription, then Cancel subscription, choose a reason and continue.
  4. 4Read the data-loss notice, enter an admin email and click Cancel My Subscription; a fixed-term plan keeps billing until the commitment ends.

Bought Workspace through a reseller, Squarespace or your domain registrar? Cancel through that partner's billing; the Admin console shows the subscription without a cancel option.

What to know before you cancel

An annual or fixed-term plan cannot be cancelled early: you can stop renewal, but the remaining months are still billed. Everything is per user, so a former employee whose account nobody deleted costs $84 to $264 a year, and suspending a user does not stop the charge, only deleting the account does. After cancellation Google keeps your data for a short grace period and then deletes it, and email on your custom domain stops arriving unless you move the MX records to another provider first. Promotional first-year prices at 50% off renew at the full list rate. On a flexible plan you can drop users or downgrade any month, while on a commitment plan a downgrade waits until renewal.

Free trial policy

14-day free trial for up to 10 users; billing starts automatically at the end unless you cancel or remove the payment method.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Google Workspace?

Current US list prices for Google Workspace are Business Starter (per user, 1-year commitment): $7/mo · Business Starter (per user, flexible): $8.40/mo · Business Standard (per user, 1-year commitment): $14/mo · Business Standard (per user, flexible): $16.80/mo · Business Plus (per user, 1-year commitment): $22/mo · Business Plus (per user, flexible): $26.40/mo. Taxes, promotions, bundles, and third-party billing can change the final price.

How do I cancel Google Workspace?

Start here: Export what you need first (Admin console → Data → Data export, or Google Takeout per user), because Gmail and Drive data are deleted after cancellation. Complete the remaining confirmation steps before leaving the account page, and save the cancellation email or screenshot.

Do I keep my Gmail and Drive files if I cancel Google Workspace?

No. Unlike a personal Google account, a cancelled Workspace subscription leads to the deletion of the domain's Gmail, Drive and other data after a short grace period. Export everything first with the Admin console's Data export tool or Google Takeout for each user, and move your domain's MX records if you want to keep receiving email at that address.

Can I move from Business Standard to Starter in the middle of an annual plan?

Not until renewal. On an annual commitment you can upgrade or add users at any time, but a downgrade or a lower user count only takes effect when the term ends. Flexible plans can move between tiers and change user counts any month, which is what the 20% premium buys.
